Who It's For

Built for peoplewho want it to actually work.

1-on-1 is the right fit if you want a program written for your body, your schedule, and your goals — not a class you fit yourself into. It's where most of our clients start, and it's what we recommend if you're new to lifting, coming back from time off, or working around an old injury.

Typical 1-on-1 clients at BUF: professionals who want fat loss or strength without a 90-minute gym habit, adults over 40 rebuilding muscle and joint health, beginners who want to learn to squat, hinge, press, and pull correctly the first time, and experienced lifters who want a coach to push them past a plateau.

Since 2017 we've coached over 1,000 New Yorkers this way. Many have trained with us for years.

How It Works

From first callto first PR.

01

Free consultation

A phone call or in-studio conversation about your goals, history, injuries, and schedule. No pressure and no sales pitch — we just need to know what you're working toward.

02

Movement assessment

Your first session covers how you move: squat, hinge, push, pull, and any joint restrictions. That tells us where to start and what to fix before we add load.

03

Your program

Your trainer writes a progressive program — strength, conditioning, and mobility in the right proportions for your goal — and adjusts it as you get stronger.

04

Coaching every rep

Sessions are 60 minutes (or 30 if you're short on time) in a private studio, with your trainer coaching form and load on every set. Every session is logged so you can see your numbers climb.

05

Nutrition when you want it

Diet coaching is included with any training plan. If your goal involves body composition, we'll set protein and calorie targets that fit your life.

Common Questions

1-on-1 personal trainingFAQ.

How much does 1-on-1 personal training cost at BUF?

60-minute 1-on-1 sessions are $90–$98 depending on how many times a week you train ($98 for 1×, $95 for 2×, $90 for 3×, $85 for additional sessions). 30-minute sessions are $50–$60. There are no membership or initiation fees. See the full Rates page.

How often should I train with a trainer?

Most clients see the best results at 2–3 sessions per week. If budget or schedule only allows once a week, we'll pair it with a simple plan you can do on your own. Our guide to how often to strength train covers the trade-offs.

Do I need to be in shape to start?

No. Many of our new clients have never lifted weights. Your first session is an assessment, and your program starts wherever you are.

Do I need a gym membership?

No. BUF is a private studio. Your session fee covers everything — there's nothing else to join or pay for.

Can I combine 1-on-1 with other formats?

Yes. Many clients do one 1-on-1 session and one semi-private session a week, or mix 60- and 30-minute sessions. Mobility sessions and nutrition coaching can be added to any plan.

Are your trainers certified?

Yes. Our trainers hold nationally recognized credentials including NASM, ACE, and NCSF certifications. You can read each trainer's background on our Trainers page.
