Who It's For

For pairs, and for peoplewho want the price of one.

Semi-private means exactly two clients with one certified trainer. It is not a class. Both of you get your own program, your own loads, and your own coaching — you just share the hour and the cost.

It works for couples and friends who want to train together, for coworkers who can book the same lunch slot, and for individuals who want personal training at a lower price point. If you don't have a partner, we'll match you with someone at a similar level and schedule.

The maximum is two. We don't run groups of three, four, or six and call it "semi-private."

How It Works

How a 1-on-2session runs.

01

Consultation for both of you

We talk to each person about goals, history, and schedule. If you're being matched, we pair you with someone whose availability and level line up with yours.

02

Two programs, one hour

Your trainer writes a separate program for each client. You might be squatting while your partner is pressing — the coach moves between you, correcting form and setting loads.

03

Coached, not supervised

Every set gets eyes on it. Because there are only two of you, the trainer is never more than a few feet away.

04

Nutrition included

Diet coaching is included with any training plan, for both partners, whenever you want it.

Pricing

Per-personpricing.

Each person pays their own rate, which drops as you train more often. No membership fees and no contracts for either of you.

Why BUF

What MakesBUF different.

01

Real Coaching At A Lower Price

$60–$70 per person for a certified trainer's full attention on two people. It's the most cost-effective way to get coached in Manhattan.

02

Never More Than Two

Our cap is two clients per trainer. That's what keeps it personal training rather than a small class with a fancy name.

03

Partner Matching

No training partner? We'll match you with a client at a similar level and schedule. Many of our longest-running pairs met at BUF.

04

Accountability Built In

A partner expecting you at 7 AM is the single best attendance tool we know of. Semi-private clients tend to be our most consistent.

05

No Contracts, No Fees

No membership, no initiation, no package to pre-buy. Book the frequency that works and change it as needed.

06

Proven Results

One semi-private client dropped 21 pounds and 14 percentage points of body fat in a little over a year, training 1-on-2 three times a week. Read Zach's story.

Common Questions

Semi-private trainingFAQ.

How much does semi-private training cost?

$60–$70 per person per 60-minute session depending on weekly frequency ($70 for 1×, $65 for 2×, $60 for 3×, $55 for additional sessions). 30-minute sessions are $30–$40 per person. No membership or initiation fees. Full details on the Rates page.

Do I need to bring my own partner?

No. If you don't have one, we'll match you with another client at a similar level and schedule. If you do have one, you can book together from day one.

What if my partner and I have different goals or fitness levels?

That's normal and it's fine. Each of you gets your own program and your own weights. You share the coach and the hour, not the workout.

Is semi-private the same as small group training?

No. Small group classes at big gyms often run 4–8 people on one shared workout. BUF semi-private is capped at two people, each on an individual program.

Are your trainers certified?

Yes. Our trainers hold nationally recognized credentials including NASM, ACE, and NCSF certifications. See the Trainers page.
